You may recall that at the tail end of last year there was a meeting at the village Community Centre which attracted a great deal of attention, with around 200 people attending and several more unable to gain entry.
The initial intent was to establish the level of interest in a community ‘rescue‘ of the Ring of Bells which was put up for sale by owners St Austell Brewery in early 2017. However, it soon became clear that many present were keen to include the Bishop John de Grandisson (also up for sale by owners Tom & Yvonne) within the scope of any feasibility study into a community-pub project for Bishopsteignton.
Following a couple of further, smaller meetings in January, a Steering Group chaired by Derek Greatorex and named Bishop HOPS (Help Our Pubs Survive) – was formed, and its remit agreed: to investigate the feasibility of and potential funding for a community-owned pub within the village of Bishopsteignton.
Within this steering group we have many skills including financial, fundraising, marketing & communications, social media, data collection and analysis, project management and experience in the pub and restaurant environment to ensure that this project is successfully administered. But we’re always on the lookout for new blood!
There have been funds raised to carry out initial investigations, scope created for a more comprehensive and widespread survey within the community and approaches are being made to various potential sources of funding for the project itself.
You’ll be hearing more about Bishop HOPS very soon, but in the meantime if you would like more information about who is involved, our achievements to date and where we’re heading next, please message us on Facebook, contact us by email on email@example.com, or contact our chairman by email: firstname.lastname@example.org
