There is a BEM in the Honours List for Mrs Frances Edwards of Bishopsteignton.
According to her citation, Mrs Edwards has made an enormous contribution to local health charities over the years and is held in enormous esteem by her fellow villagers because of the dedication she shows to ensuring their welfare.
For the last 40 years, she has provided invaluable support to those in need in Bishopsteignton.
She is often the first port of call, virtually 24 hours a day, to take elderly villagers to hospital appointments or to the surgery, conveying residents to dental appointments, physio sessions, shopping trips, pets to vets, picking up prescriptions, posting letters and parcels.
She also visits those in need in their homes or hospital, and takes flowers to parishioners who are ill on behalf of the parish. She is a qualified defibrillator operator and was an NHS First Responder for many years.
She is described as ‘a relentless volunteer’, and the citation goes on: “It was through her efforts that the local Memory Cafe was formed which today makes a real difference to the lives of those with dementia and their families. She has, over a sustained period of time, made an enormous contribution to the life and well-being of her community.
Congratulations Fran, well deserved!
