Every Thursday from 7.30pm onwards, lovers and performers of acoustic music are freely invited to enjoy a wide variety covering all genres.
From the success of the first night, September 5th 2013, the format has continually welcomed those of all abilities and tastes in music. Although not actually a club, there is just one rule – no amplification and no microphone. And no cover charge.
Solo performers as well as small groups (ideally no more than four) have the opportunity to perform three songs a night – one in the first “set”, two in the second. This makes sure the variety is fully appreciated and allows for all types of music: folk; blues and blue grass; jazz and gypsy jazz; country; rock and pop; classical; olde English and sea shanties – accompanied or a capella.
Skill levels range from ex-professional and semi-professional to beginners and “improvers”.
We have coped with up to 20 individual acts per Thursday but around a dozen is about right to take us comfortably up to 10.30pm or just after.
You are advised to arrive just before 7.30pm a. so you get a seat (as non-participating audience), or b. so you get on the list as a performer, on the basis that you “play in the order that you arrive”. (Sorry, no slots can be reserved in advance.)
Not confined to “locals”, the value in every evening is to bring together communities, and to bring together musicians – of all levels and players of all (acoustic) instruments.
