The Bishopsteignton Women’s Institute meets on the first Thursday of every month, at 2:30pm in the Village Hall. New members are always welcome, as are visitors if you would like to come along and see what the local WI group is all about. The meetings kick off with a brief business meeting, followed by a guest speaker. Over the course of the year we enjoy a wide variety of talks, on topics such as The National Trust, local wildlife conservation, and many more.
The Bishopsteignton WI is affiliated to the national WI federation, and a delegate from the group attends the annual national conference. At a more local level, the Bishopsteignton group is affiliated with the Devon County WI, with its regional office in Exeter, which holds an annual carol service at Exeter Cathedral, which members are very welcome to attend. The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities, the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities, and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.
The Bishopsteignton WI also has a crafts sub-committee, which meets monthly at the Methodist Church Hall. Other activities include games of skittles, which are played on Wednesday evenings (from 7.00pm) in the Village Hall. An afternoon of scrabble is on offer in case of inclement weather! Various fund-raising events are also held at regular intervals.
If you are interested in joining the local WI, please come along to a meeting, or call Venice James on 774760 for more information.
