Changes at the top of Probus Club

At their Annual General Meeting, Bishopsteignton Probus Club changed their top officers with Baz Carpenter (left in photo) becoming chairman, taking over from John Tuddenham who has been a very successful chairman for the past two years. John Kay was elected Vice Chairman and Henry Merritt was re-elected as Programme Secretary. He presented the club’s programme of speakers for the next year which was welcomed by club members who appreciated the quality of speakers and the wide range of topics, including “The Truth about Dragon’s Den”, “The Joys and terrors of Public Speaking”, “A Virtual tour of Lundy Island”, ”Citiizens Against Corruption”, and “Exeter Ship Canal”.

Treasurer Morgan Wilmot reported on a financially successful year, and it was announced that yet again there will be no increase in subscriptions. Club Secretary, Tony Corlett, reported an increase in club membership and high attendance at the programme of talks, lunches and coach trips. He also sought members’ views of the new constitution which they fully endorsed.   The constitution makes it clear that membership is open to men who are retired or nearing retirement and live in Bishopsteignton and neighbouring areas. Currently, the majority of members live in Bishopsteignton with several others drawn from Kingsteignton, Newton Abbot, Torquay, Dawlish, Teignmouth, and St. Marychurch.
