Raising the Roof!

Our Parish Church was first built in the early 12th Century, circa 1130 and has therefore been at the centre of community life in our village for nearly 900 years. During this time the village has had to deal with a whole variety of challenges and adapt the building to maintain its place in the life of the community.

The slate roof has leaked and rotted some of the battens leading to the fall of plaster into the Nave. The 2017 review of the state of the church included an immediate recommendation that the roof, dating from the early 19th century, should be replaced.

So far, we have received over £8,000 towards the building costs. A big thank you to those who have given so generously.

The total amount required is presently £410,000. The amount includes professional fees for design, specification, contract management and supervision. We have spent £6,600 to date. With your help the PCC has met these bills and has now allocated a further £15,000 towards the match funding needed to obtain significant grant funding through the National Lottery Heritage Fund. As the expense is for the Church building our further contribution to the total cost will be to recover the VAT outlay, estimated to be up to £80,000.

Further contributions are welcome to Bishopsteignton PCC Roof Fund, c/o The Treasurer at 47, Cockhaven Road, Bishopsteignton or by BACs to Cooperative Bank, Bishopsteignton PCC, Sort code 08 92 99, Account number 65322325.
