ALL CHANGE AT THE TOP OF MEN’S PROBUS CLUB
At the Annual General Meeting of Bishopsteignton Probus Club, members had optimistic reports from key officers, including treasurer Tony Corbett announcing that club finances are in a healthy state and therefore the cost of members’ subscriptions will not rise in 2022-23. This was due in part to an increase in membership after Covid. Henry Merritt distributed the programme of talks for the next season and this was well-received by members who took the opportunity to thank him for the excellent standard and variety of speakers that he gets for the club. Members also voted on a major change in club leadership proposed by the club committee. Peter Hartley stood down as chairman because of future major commitments which would prevent him from giving the level of service that he has managed so well during the past year. Significant elements of his forthcoming commitments include extended periods on holiday abroad and a wedding in India. Peter announced that the existing Vice Chairman David Carpenter-Clawson will take over as chairman and members were asked to decide if they supported the proposal that Ian Gray should become Vice Chairman, with members voting unanimously in favour of both proposals.
