Bishopsteignton Opera Circle (BOC)
This is an informal group who normally meet a couple of times a month to watch opera performances on DVD hosted by the Old Commercial Inn landlord Michael Smith and his team.
The group had been meeting for over a year prior to the Covid outbreak and is now looking to restart on July 7th with the showing of “Hansel & Gretel” by Engelbert Humperdinck.
Whatever your experience of opera you will be most welcome to join us. The meeting will formally start at 7:45 pm with a brief introduction to the opera. However you might wish to come along earlier than this so as to secure drinks etc. before the start of the performance.
There will be a break mid-performance to allow attendees to re-charge their glasses and obtain any other sustenance they may need. At the end of the performance there will be a collection for the RNLI.
If you wish to attend and/or wish to be kept informed of future performances then please email the leader of the group Ken Sunshine: [email protected] providing your contact details.
Please be aware as the event is to be held outdoors it will be subject to the weather.
Looking to the future we hope to show some of the following operas over the next few months:
- Mozart – The Magic Flute
- Bizet – Carmen
- Verdi – Nabucco
- Gilbert and Sullivan – The Mikado
- Britten – Peter Grimes
- Borodin – Prince Igor
- Smetana – The Bartered Bride
- Wagner – Lohengrin
- Dvorak – Rusalka
- Tchaikovsky – Eugene Onegin.
Suggestions can also be made of operas you would like to see in the coming months.
